Strange Loops is 90 minutes of music, poetry, and field recordings cataloging Sun's dreams, their movement through the year of many happenings, and their growth as an artist. Topics covered include death and rebirth, simultaneity, pain, grit, and tenderness.

The tape format was essential to the process of making this work: from how field recording was used to capture fragmentary song ideas to how the magnetic hiss acts as a dark backdrop for sunbaby's sounds and an instrument of its own. This is an album intended to be listened to front to back and on repeat to get the effect of the loop, ideally on your crummy old walkman or your car's tape deck.

All the tracks were recorded as improvisational demos, sometimes branching off a song idea but often spontaneous and unplanned. Earlier in the year I had excitedly cut them all together to fill a tape that I wanted to send out to friends across the country to show folks what sunbaby had been learning. At that point, Strange Loops was unnamed and more sparse. Much of the poetry had not been included at that point. In listening to the tapes as I duplicated them, I began to hear a larger work hidden within what I'd intended as a slapdash demo. With the overdubbing of additional reading and field recording as well as digital adjustment of levels, I've brought out what I believe to be the best of what I made over the past year. This work portrays my growth as an artist although it is not sequentially ordered. You can hear mistakes and places where I am attempting to find a note or learn my instrument. I have come to love these places and I present them to you as a gift of encouragement.
